Gimmelwald, Switzerland

Today was the most amazing day ever. Yesterday Abby and I traveled from Barcelona to Lyon, France. Between transfers and waiting and riding, it took almost the entire day. However, today definItely made up for it. We left Lyon this morning by train for Interlaken, Switzerland. We transferred several times, once in Geneva. I was on high alert looking for Victor Frankenstein and his monster! The train ride was absolutely beautiful. The terrain gradually got more mountainous, and Lake Geneva was a perfect blue-greenish color. We were so close! It was around then that I got my first ever glimpse of mountains! I looked like one if those dang American tourists as h snapped picture after picture out the train window. We got to Interlaken around 1:30 and got off the train. Because if the mountains, that was as far as the train would go. We hopped on a bus at the station and made our way up into the Alps even more. When it was too steep for even the bus, we switched to a gondola cable car. We finally arrived in our destination ‘town’ at about 3:00 thus afternoon. The village if Gimmelwald has no vehicles and consists if two streets. It is said that there are more cows than people. It is nestled in the mountains, which stand majestically around everything. I have never seen anything more beautiful and awe inspiring in my life. It is truly amazing to see God has done. It puts everything into perspective. After checking into the hostel, we set off to explore the two streets. We found this adorable Swiss shop called ‘The Honesty Shop’ which is an unattended self service village shop. I bought a Swiss winter hat and a cowbell. Next we went down to our his trek, which also serves as a restaurant. We had local beer from Interlaken, as well as pizza, fir dinner. We ate outside and continued to take in the amazing views. After dinner we grabbed coffee and then took our books up part if the mountain. We sat, relaxed, and read our novels fir quite a while. We are now back in the hostel for the night. Tomorrow promises to be another amazing day. We are taking the cable car up to the very top of the mountain! I am beginning to understand why thd locals say ‘if Heaven isn’t what it’s cracked up to be, send me back to Gimmelwald!’
